Marketing Revolution

I’m usually not so excited about some conferences, trainings, lectures, because even in case that it was interesting and fascinating, anyway information evaporates from my brain really fast.

My friend proposed me to work as a journalist on a conference “Marketing Revolution”. And I said-YES! It was an interesting challenge and this work was about communication with marketing directors of different companies, to whom I may come one day as a candidate for a job position.

I spent two amazing days on this conference chatting with those passionate, successful, interesting people.

Ok, maybe, I’ll forget information from presentations. But I will remember people, light in their eyes. I will remember how they talk about their occupation. And that is really inspiring! I know I’m on the right way. I want to become a part of this world and I will!!!

Business cards for unemployed or how to promote your own brand!

There is a stereotype that visit cards are purposed only for people, who are involved in the business to share them with clients and partners. But why not to give business cards to potential employers, to people, with whom you just want to stay in touch?!

I faced the situation, in which I needed business cards. I was going to work as a journalist at the conference “Marketing Revolution” and communicate with marketing managers from various companies, to which I may apply in the future for a job. So I decided to make business cards!

Visit card of a young specialist, who are looking for a job, should include the following information:

  • Name (Obviously, your name should be included on your networking card);
  • link on your resume on the web ( Use your business cards to direct people to it);
  • a few bullet points about your sphere (e.g., “*Sales, *Marketing, *Promotions”);
  • Contact Information

Here are some examples of good business cards? which inspired me to design my own card:

 And now, my own business card from both sides:

The Top 5 Reasons Why People Like Lists

Numbers attract!

Feature of all magazine covers – the use of numbers. 7 Ways, 40 reasons, 6 secrets. Sometimes it comes to the absurd – on the cover of a magazine referred to the number surpasses 300.

The figures also good “catchy look.” They stand out from the rest of the text, in addition, they are more informative, they create the illusion of specificity. The figures are often found in web banners, and in the city for outdoor advertising.

If you have a choice, write “seven ways” or “7 Ways”, then choose the second variant. It is thought, that a person actually reads only the first three digits on a page. Therefore, “just over 300 000 ‘may be better than” 300 125 “.

Lists! We make them every day. But why they are so widespread?!

5. A simple headline: There’s a reason that newspapers have people to write the headlines of the articles. When the headline is about a top ten list, it’s a perfectly relevant headline. If people are even remotely interested in the topic, they’ll look.

4. Lists bring order to chaos. We like to classify and organize things. A list simply does that.

3. Lists are easy to skim. They have numbers beside them. They often have bold copy on the front part of the list so people can skim them quickly.

2. A good way to start communication. Lists are a great way to generate conversation. And social media, at its best, is about generating conversations. They might not happen under the lists. Also, arguing means sharing.

1. People like to see what’s on it, and the order. As soon as people see a list, they immediate wonder what’s on it. And so, the #1 thing on the list either affirms what they are thinking, or are completely wrong. That kind of black and white point ensures that people will be engaged.

And also it’s just a fascinating anti-stress activity. Make a list of films, places, where you would like to go or just to do list and than just to cross out them one by one. Progress is visible.

So, make lists!

Why do I hate people asking me what is my hobby?!

A hobby horse is a wooden or wickerwork toy made to be ridden just like a real horse (which was sometimes called a “Hobby”). From this came the expression “to ride one’s hobby-horse”, meaning “to follow a favorite pastime”, and in turn, hobby in the modern sense of recreation.

Here is a definition from Wikipedia: “A hobby is a regular activity or interest that is undertaken for pleasure, typically done during one’s leisure time”.

Hobbies can be a good way to deal with stress, besides hobby classes often help develop a vision, to expand the circle of friends and can help you fulfill your potential.

The definition seem clear, the importance of having a hobby also. But why it is so hard sometimes to answer this question: “What is your hobby?”

 Sport. I usually watch basketball and football games. I enjoy playing tennis, volleyball, badminton. I visit dance trainings twice a week. I do it to keep fit, to entertain myself, but I can easily live without that.

Reading. Yeah, I do read a lot, but I don’t feel anything special about it. Same situation with occupations like cooking, writing, movies, music…

So what are the reasons? Why people do not gave a hobby? Here are some reasons and explanation why they actually aren’t reasons:

1. Laziness.

Do lying on the couch, watching TV or sleeping are hobbies? If so, that is a way out for lazy ones. According to the definition, those occupations can be considered as hobbies.

2. They think they are too busy for hobby.

Scientists believe that hobby can actually raise our productivity, so more things will be done and people will feel more relaxed and happy. Here are a few of the benefits of having a hobby:

–   Energizes You – a hobby brings you renewed energy and excitement.  This will carry over to the rest of your activities.

–  Provides New Creativity –when you are doing your hobby it sparks your creativity.  You are more likely to have creative breakthroughs.  Solutions to problems you are facing will come to you.

–   Prevents Burnout – We know that anything, even a machine, doing the same thing over-and-over will eventually burnout.  If you do not take a break to refresh yourself, you too will burnout.  Interestingly, this is also true in our personal lives.  It is equally important for our home relationships to have an individual hobby.

–   Personal Growth – We all need to keep growing both professionally and personally.  Doesn’t matter if your hobby is gardening, weightlifting, or reading, you will grow from it.

3. Lack of money.

You don’t have to ride a horse, travel or collect expensive cars to say, that u have hobby! There are so many things that will not cost anything, like embroidery, reading, jogging or playing sport games with friends.

As I believe hobby should be an activity, which you enjoy in your spare time regardless of the mood and the weather outside the window. It just has to be something that you feel passion about. And it can be anything that brings a smile on your face. It doesn’t matter if it’s your constant occupation or you often change it. Hobby – it’s all about you, it helps you overcome difficult moments, it develops you, and it helps you find friends.

So why do I hate this question? I already don’t. I have a lot of hobbies. I thought I don’t just because I compared myself to people who, for example, dance and it fill all their lives, it brings money to them and so on. Ok, those people are lucky, their hobby become their job. But it’s not necessary should happen to everyone. I’m already OK with what I have.

And, NO, I don’t think, that sleeping or watching TV are hobbies!

St. Valentine’s Day – it’s all about perception!

I hope everybody have already read the stories on the origin of this holiday?! Because that’s not what I’m going to write about. I’m just going to examine this holiday from 2 diametrically opposed points of view (positive and negative).

Negative

This holiday “bestows”  to  the   single   people  complexes,      negativity,  stress, mental  disorders.  On this day,  seeing  all  around love attributes –  beads, flowers, hearts, all  kinds –  single people have  particularly acute  sense of  loneliness. As a result, a lot of stress adversely affects health, increasing queues at pharmacies and the number of calls in the ambulance.

Add to this that in February, the last month of winter, is the most depressing part of the year. And, according to the sad statistics, it accounts the largest number of suicides. Guess which day of February holds the record for suicides? That’s right, the 14th …

Moreover, this day is also associated with broken dreams for many people. Every year you promise yourself that till the next St. Valentine’s you will find a partner, but that February 14th is closer and closer and you are alone again …

Not only single people exposed to stress this day. According to statistics from Facebook, composed exclusively of users’ status (“In a relationship”, “Single”, etc.), separations often occur between the St. Valentine’s Day (February 14) and April 1. Due to public pressure and thought that this day should be special, people are often disillusioned with their partner because he/she did not do anything as we had imagined, as we were showed it on TV …

All of this demonstration of the mutual love of happiness cause a feeling that everyone around is much more passionate than you, and have a lot more sex. You find yourself pulled into some kind of an absurd contest between pairs. “Yeah, Charlotte from the marketing department got the most expensive roses, but you went to the most expensive restaurant…”

Some Statistics

83 % of those who celebrates are young people aged 18-35 years.

Surprisingly, 54 % of women hate this holiday. In general, it appears that men love this day far more than women: in a ratio of 25% to 12%.

38 % of women and 53 % of men would like to celebrate this day with a romantic dinner in a fancy restaurant, 39 percent of women dream to spend this evening at home.

Positive

Admit that running through the shops in search of wacky gifts with hearts for your second half is not so scary, and even pleasant.

This day is a great chance for indecisive people to finally decide to share their feelings. This is yet another reason to drop everything and spend the day as you like. And if you’re still single, you can arrange cool “anti-Valentine” party, and there may be get acquainted with someone. You can present hearts to your friends, overeat chocolate …. You decide how to spend this day: in depression, or like a real holiday. It’s all about YOU and your own perception of the situation.

I would like to transfer Valentine’s Day to another plane! That it become not a “professional day” held on love couples, but a universal day of love, which did not fill people with frustration and emptiness, and gave them confidence and hope.

And those who have already found a partner, I want to ask on Valentine’s Day to not only revel with beloved half, but be more responsive to the people, who are lonely. And give them a little more attention than usual.

1st step into the blogosphere

I read a lot of articles and various posts on how to start a blog and what to write in it. I can’t say that some information has been useful for me, except for the forum, where I was given an advice to choose WordPress as a platform. In other articles I read just phrases like: “write information, which will be interesting to other people», «before creating a blog – prepare at least 10 articles for publication …” But as Chuck Palahniuk wrote “In fact, nothing is new anymore. Everything is already there. And all of what we think already has stroked millions of other people.” So, if you write something that is close and clear to you, people, who understand and accept it, will turn up. The trick is to write interesting, but only direct readers of the content are able to assess it. And if you wait until the 10 articles will be prepared to start the blog, you may never actually start it.

The first step is always difficult to make. I spent for the registration and the publication of the first post a whole day. No, I was not sitting at the computer all the time constraining each word. But all the time I was pondering the publication. During this day, I have changed 5 topics for the first post and have found another 3 for the following posts.

Another important decision taken – try to write in a positive way. I will attract positive karma, or how it is correct to say? )) Maybe it’s just a fiction, but how then to explain the superhuman luck of some people?

Results:

– A blog created;

– First publication is done;

– 3 ideas for future posts are found;

– One day is spent.

It’s not too hard to start blogging. It is difficult to achieve the goals you pursue when creating it. Whatever your goals are in the blogosphere, have a good luck!
